Cartoons which incite anger

Some of the angry protestors in london (at sloane street where the danish embassy situated) displayed their resentment by threatening the danish (and the londoners)with another bombing episode on the placards. I think this is another common mistake made by those muslims who cannot foresee what kind of implication would that bring to anyone who is seen as muslim in the UK ( as well as around the world). And I also agree to Tariq Ramadhan's point of view on how to handle such a sensitive issue of portraying the holy prophet Muhammad S.A.W in a blasphemous way.
Anger may lead to destruction beyond control, be it orally or physically. No wonder we are told by our prophet to always manage our anger and channel it appropriately so as to become our strength in a positive manner. In the hadith, he (the rasulullah) quoted:
Narrated Abu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himselfwhile in anger."

A man who put Islamic integrity on the UK map,particularly in london
RH Dr.Zaki badawi has passed away on the 24th January 2006.Some news on his demise:guardian1; guardian2; islamiconline.com; times online
I met him in real life back in spring 2001 at the Muslim College in Ealing Common, west london. That was when i just started my PhD course. He claimed to have been in malaysia pre-independence era and befriended some of our great malaysian leaders and/or scholars including ungku aziz and anwar ibrahim. He appeared in quite a number of talk show programs in the UK, where most of them were shown on BBC.
His presence will be sorely missed. I do hope that his legacy will continue to live through his successors as well as those from the MAB, MCB, and so on, in dealing with the Islamic issue in Britain.

back home in malaysia
19th Dec 2005, I safely arrived at KLIA after a long but not so very boring journey from London thx to the english bro and sis who sat next to me on the same seat row. They may be english but they are born and brought up in France. Good thing they can still speak english english minus the french accent.
3rd January 2006, i began my duty in UKM. Those people at the Faculty of Engineering, particularly my own dept, i.e. the Dept of Chemical Engineering & Process (JKKP) gave a warm, cordial welcome to me....That actually helped me a lot coz i was nervous for i dunno whatever reason back in london...maybe subconsciously i dunno what kinda reception, response and so on i wud get and the feeling of uncertainty of how to mingle with the "malaysian" environment. Now i found out that it's all in my mind....that whole psycho thingies....I shouldve known myself SO much better that I am naturally flexible when it comes to a new territory be it malay-speaking countries, english speaking countries or elsewhere around the world...hang on, that was such an exaggerated statement since i havent had much of a challenge yet staying and surviving in those countries with their own writings like China, Japan, India, etc apart from short hols in south Thai. I wont count egypt or any part of the arabic league as part of the challenge much as i could not only speak their language to a fairly good extent but also understand much much better. Thats because hmm....because i do understand that arabic language a great deal esp the egyptian informal lingo but i do not practice communicating in it much except it sort of becomes intermingled in our family. Lotsa arabic words used in our own unique family language that only we could understand it.
(OK, enuf about that whole lingo talk)
Today, 16th January 2006, monday, it's been almost a month since i came back. Needless to tell the changes i've seen or had to go through so far....i am still clueless about a lot of things....but alhamdulillah, family, frens, colleagues are all quite helpful in one way or another....this is what i call a transition period where i have to listen, observe and learn whatever new system it is around me including how to wear tudung malaysian style. There is INDEED a lot to catch up.
Nevertheless, I do miss london and uk soooooo much! It's like my 2nd country, my 2nd home....a place where i can somehow breath easily and felt far from alienated...a place a lot like home i must say....Malaysia is and always has been my 1st home but there are always some aspects of which i had to consider my 2nd home a haven for me. I guess i am not alone when it comes to finding our own solace. But whatever it is, I am soooo thankful to Allah for allowing me opportunities to make me what i am now. Speaking of the city, that Red Hot Chilli Pepper song: Under the Bridge came into my mind. Right now, i am taking my own sweet time so to speak to learn about my country once again....to be able to appreciate more even though there are always a lot of things that are quite disputable and arguable. Personally i think malaysia, esp my area Bandar Baru Bangi and the klang valley itself is getting much much better compared to few years back. A lot has been improved...Slowly but steadily....

Last raya aidilfitri as a student!
Now I am officially a PhD degree holder, alhamdulillah....I defended my work, did the viva last 5th oct 2005 and now i can actually address myself as Tengku Dr.Manal Tengku Ismail.....heheh...how cool is that.
And more, i celebrated the eid (3rd nov, 1st shawal 1426) with a new different feelings....to be honest, i didnt really get that "excited" once they announced to me (i.e. the internal and external examiners) that i've passed my viva...it was more liek a relief then....after that i fell sick for nearly 2 weeks! My blood pressure rose high esp the diastolic one and i got into the hospital one saturday 22nd oct during ramadhan.....luckily , my other organs and overall body system are still functioning like normal except the hypertensive inclination.....now i am on this beta blocker pill, atenolol, to help minimise thus reduce the diastolic pressure back to the healthy, normal level.....it was a bit scary i must admit....what with heart palpitation, body temperature had risen to fever level and so on.....They did all the basic test on me, like temperature taking, mammogram for blood pressure, ECG for the heart, urine and blood tests as well as X-Ray for the chest....the only thing left now is kidney, renal X-ray....i think it's basically a breakdown fever....my body indicating me the extreme fatigueness....good thing it happened after my viva....though i still have to do some minor correction on my thesis.
I celebreated eid, doing the normal routione like eid prayers at malaysia hall on that thursday morning, 3rd nov, and then followed by visiting my fren's fren place. After that i went to the NHS ar south ken for the followup. Then i went on me own to Hicom's place in hampstead heath. Friday, i am off to birmingham, berkompol raya dgn kakak and adek perempuan's family there. I came back to london yesterday, monday.
Oh well...alhamdulillah i am getting much better now...i still have to watch my salt intake per day as a precaution.

Maybe I read too much of Robert Ludlum's novels...but I could not help myself reading and pondering about the too many conspiracy theories ever since Homer's Iliad: Troy. An interesting opinion on Gaza reality check from IHT is just one of the millions opinions unbiased and backed with unambiguous reasons. People like Dan Brown who captured many people on his theories regarding Da Vinci Code...controversial it is undoubtedly, but it is fascinating indeed. Then, i was thinking of reasons why some people had the nerves to discuss on such sensitive matters, when they obviously have their own hidden agendas. More than a decade ago, books like Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie has been and still is provocative especially to the practised muslims. That and the london bombing episodes happened because of the angry and frustrated people (can i say openly that they are muslim to the muslim hardliners without getting some bashes? I think better not. I'm simply a humanitarian muslim praying for peace and harmony and mutual understanding at least 75% on earth). What is the difference between you muslims attacking other people who disregard u and those christians and jews who blamed anyone other than themselves for any atrocity?
So some say justice is to be avenged, pay blood with blood and stuff. Well, what can i say, this world aint becoming a utopia, far from approaching it. The best deal is to find any possibility to reach some kinda equilibrium point or a buffer point. Happy living in a cynical world!

Sandhurst, 12th August 2005
(i wrote this on the 17th jan. I had to delay it due to inevitable circumstances).
This is the 1st time ever i've been in an army academy....never been to one in malaysia, and i premiered my visit at the Sandhurst Military college down in surrey. It was actually for the graduation day of a fren, faiz, who was introduced by azizah. I went there with his family, abg iberahim, kak zu and his baby sister, hakimah.
It was really a new experience all together for me....having had the opportunity to be in a place of long military history both for the royal england family as well as for the malaysian elites dated back as far as pre-malaysia independence time.
To make it more eventful, the current malaysian sultan was given the honour to officiate this graduation ceremony. The national anthem, negaraku was played as the main anthem next to the UK's God save the queen and our own national flag was erected on the main pole. Bit of a patriotic feelings there i hafta say....

Our friendship began approximately 3 yrs ago, but we only got to know each other much, much better since 2 and a half years ago...When i first arrived in imperial college to do my PhD, he was already in his 2nd year PhD and he was still trying to recover from his father's death. We met through mutual friends, which are also our circle of friends...they are lina (petlin), sue (pet aya), hekarl (pet bulu), zamri (legam aka abg am), and mikal (or i sometimes call him mimmy).
We became rather close after this silly misunderstanding on a Circle Line tube on our way to bayswater.
I'll continue with my story on him later on.
