that videoclips by namewee and kenny sia

Negaraku version :

And another one, kawanku:

To Wee Meng Chee: your singing not bad...and when u sing the negaraku, it sounds ok to me, and u look pretty much "malay"-blended to me.

I ni pon kadang2 dunno how to distinguish between which is which, a lot of melayu look like mamak, like chinese, to me they are all east asian communities mixing together and living together and eat the same dishes (nasi lemak, roti canai, etc). They marry each other, chinese become muslims, indian become muslims, there are muslim chinese by birth, muslim indians by birth and so on....

And have u not heard 'God Save the Queen' sex pistol version?

Did she the queen herself put all of them johnny rotten n the gang in prison and force them to apologize before the world? she was mocked and that song became like the 2nd national anthem of the late 70s and did she go "kuku" over that? surely she knew they're taking the piss but she was and still is the HRH Queen of Britannia....

My point here is: take it with a pinch of salt. All that he said aint new but what is new is how he managed to youtube his talent and made negaraku-ku a global vista.

Plus, he's in taiwan, and taiwaneses are bold in their political speeches. Talking about being patriotic the taiwan way.

I'm openminded enuf to listen to those youtube, but are u?

Amidst all that namewee most talked about videoclips, kenny sia responded with his own version, go watch it:

But Kenny, why more chinese schools???? sure, more and more malay kids go to SJKC and SMJKC but doncha think we should go for sekolah kebangsaan with chinese classes instead??? how much longer do we need all these silly segregations if we continue all these social dividing at primary and secondary school levels? I know it's tough but prolly another 10 years or so, I anticipate a better harmonious merge. Lets do more integrasi schools then as option. As in sekolah agama rendah, which managed to get integrated into government schools and so should the chinese schools (as well as tamil schools) integrated into government schools as well.

I teach all chinese, tamil and malay mongrel kids at my university and i treat all fair and square. Some of my chinese ex-students even during my tutor time are still in touch. Heck, i am bloody globalised innit? the proclaimed citizen of the world, innit babe* (the bengal tiger dude).

Manal, this two our new age malaysian eh? You know, I keep telling my partner that Malaysian are so lucky, because unlike the British here yg selalu ter over defensive dgn Paki/gagak/muslim fanatics nya, we takdelah nak gado-gado.How wrong I was, it is abt time the Malaysian have equalities, they can't keep their mouth shut any longer.

I suppose people will gradually crack under pressure that has been bottling up for years!

Somehow, the people in the leading position just managed to keep things from going worse.

Eh, Manal - tho there are truths to what that namewee is singing, but I find some lyrics a bit too much AND rude..

With regard to Simpsonised, I deliberately leave those names out, partly coz 'tak larat' nak tulis too much. Why don't you comment on ALL of them then? Hehe..

ermm....sorry to defer in views.
certain things are for debate and certain things are for comformance.
Certain situations warrant for diplomacy yet certain things call for firmness in view and action.
In my view, we must learn from history - Our very own Malaysian history.
In a multi ethnic society like ours, respect is of utmost importance to maintain harmony.
Respecting Ugama, Bangsa dan Budaya for Melayu, Cina dan India ....sangat penting.
I find the songs and the liriks very disrespectful. This is not abt not liking chinese or indians...this is about not condoning rude and disresPectful behaviour!

Bro Idham,

Thanks for your input and I agree to what u said regarding the disrespectfulness he may have demonstrated, and people also talked about how singapore got separated and that bloody 13 May 1969 incident. And silly him for putting up a show in the youtube without realising how deep the impact felt across the nation.

Though he's now getting what he deserved, he also managed to make a parody of sharing his own point of views and unfortunately half as many other malaysian chinese's point of view. Is he to be blamed 100% or is this another wake up call for our leaders, legislators and executives in the parliament to review the constitution that is made up for all malay, chinese and indians including the keistimewaan hak2 melayu act and Islam as the official religion.

Like i said before, our leaders still manage to put it under control wisely.Of course, it's hard to please everyone, but nobody is against peace. As outrageous as it has been, it also reflect on us, the malays and muslims especially on our social conduct. Take it positively as a national reminder that united we stand, divided we fall.

Dear manal….

Thank you for opening a forum on the subject which I find objective and open mindedly debated. Perhaps I should write an entry of my own….but then again, I hope you will permit me to indulge further with my views here.

We share similar view as far as there are bigger issues which are being represented by Namewee. Our youth are becoming restless with suppressed energy, stressed with unexpressed fears and frustrations, and aimlessly desperate and dangerous. Some have been openly biadap and kurang ajar.
The root causes are not foreign to the intellects in the country. The solutions are harder to be implemented, especially with many parties singing the ‘Bangau oh Bangau song’.
Taken it at a more personal level, it is unlikely that any parents no matter Chinese, Indian or Malay – will tolerate if any of their children were to behave rudely and bersikap kurang ajar to their neighbours.
Not in Malaysia – not yet!
Therefore, this guy from Taiwan who has been rude and disrespectful of the nation and the national anthem should be held accountable for his actions.
I would hate to think a scenario of followers of his behaviour sprouting from amongst the Malaysian youth either in retaliation or in adulation. An immediate action of nipping this iconic inappropriate behaviour in the bud is needed and is needed now – courageously, firmly and decisively.

Then, there are longer term actions to be taken by the government. This is your view, and I fully agree. While the government must in this case take pivotal role in addressing the root cause of issues captivatingly sang by Namewee – parents, academicians, society leaders, NGOs, youth groups, sports bodies must all be active in promoting values and tangible actions as identified by the leadership of the country. Weaving in so many different parties into an integrated national agenda is a gigantic task. But we need to stop singing the ‘oh bangau song’ and pointing fingers to the next person in line.
The buck stops with whoever is there at the scene of the crime. And yes, in my view it is a crime to flame the interracial sentiments in the way the youtube song was done.

If I am saying the obvious, then it is due to my ignorance. If I sound old fashioned, then perhaps because I have lived through the period of racial tension in the country and shivers with fear of anything close to what has happened before were to be triggered again.
If I sound conservative, it is because Malaysians in general are not yet as progressive as the towering Petronas twin towers may suggest. We have managed to co-exist harmoniously by being tolerance and respectful, rather than being in full integration and embracing our differences. Until we can fully embraced our differences and diversities, until then we are better off taking the conservative route.

I thank you for allowing me this space.

Indeed - divided we fall! To stay united, we must be respectful which will breed trust.

Bro Idham,

Nope u are not conservative but u r showing a very genuine concern in an intellectual way over this matter. In as much as disagreeing the kurang ajar behaviour, u also pointed out that this trend is getting worse and worse regardless of which race origin we belong to.

In his case, the end did not justify the means. He may be patriotic but he was also expressing his own frustration openly without regarding other people's faith and feelings. I met an elderly chinese fella in JB who told me that his daughter chose to work in singapore simply because they did not see the point of working for a country which does not perceive them equally. Ironically, they all lived in JB. Why cant he just said that SingDollar is better. A lot of JB malays work there too and is that considered unpatriotic?
Surprisingly enough I met many chinese in JB who claimed to be malaysian but cannot speak good malay, and not even good english? Who are these people? Even Gurmit Singh is able to converse and understand malay.

U r right that this issue concerns everyone at every level. Here in my department, we r making as much effort as we can to integrate everyone into a more harmonious convergence in the name of equality. Budak melayu mcm suka berkelompok sesama mereka so as the chinese kids (and some tamil kids too). Jarang i see them do outside activities together including main badminton unless it has to do with their group project.

It is still not an easy feat to see everyone coexist as one big family but a globalised person like me (and certainly like u too), what matters is whether he/she wanna be friend/hang around with me or not. But it's always good to have some "orang kita" as close buddies too as we share some few common things. Coz there are things especially to do with muslim belief that we may feel comfortable with. But even that pon, i am quite selective. And thats why my good frens are of various races and believes and we all respect each other esp when it comes to food issue (balik2 i la kena care for halal part otherwise i la yg kena masak!!!! is this digressing from the topic?)
